Wagoner County Deputies involved in Deputy Involved Shooting

On 01-16-2022 Wagoner County Deputies were dispatched to the Toppers area for a Disturbance involving a Violation of a Protective Order. It was reported that the suspect was in the street, armed with a knife causing a disturbance. 

While deputies were enroute to the call, Wagoner County 911 discovered that the suspect had a "no bond" warrant for violation of protective order.

 Deputies attempted to serve the warrant and take the suspect into custody.  The suspect resisted arrest and attacked the deputies.  At some point the suspect armed himself with a weapon and lethal force was used against the suspect.

Wagoner County Deputy J. Burk discharged his weapon one time killing the suspect.  Deputy Burk was injured during the incident and was treated at local area hospital.  Deputy Burk has been employed with the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office for 5 years.

The 2nd deputy was also injured and treated at an area hospital.  Both deputies are home recovering from their injuries.

Sheriff Elliott requested the OSBI who will the investigative agency for the shooting.  Deputy J. Burk is on paid suspension, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Steffon Griffin of Toppers, Oklahoma.
